Andria Elaine Atkinson was born one of twins on 7.1.65 with Marcia Angela Atkinson in Birmingham. She came to London when she was a less than a year old to join her maternal grandparents and the rest of her mother’s family who originated from Jamaica.
Elaine (as she was commonly known) was a quiet introverted girl who struggled in school but still managed to achieve a few qualifications.
Unfortunately she developed a mental health issue at 17 which prevented her from fully realising her potential. However she found great purpose in being a Volunteer at Queen Mary’s Hospital working with children with disability, Shelter (a charity that supports the Homeless) and Age Concern. She also did paid work as a Nursery Assistant in a local nursery.
She was an avid learner who enjoyed Adult Education Classes in Dressmaking, Knitting, English Literature and Computing.
She had the opportunity to travel to Barbados, Barcelona Cuba, France, Holland, Ibiza, Jamaica, Tenerife and Milan.
Sadly in 2015 Elaine was diagnosed with cancer which she courageously battled for almost 8 years with the support of The Royal Marsden Hospital, other Health Professionals, her family and friends.
Elaine died on 17.1.23 and is survived and terribly missed by her parents Desmond and Vena, her sisters, Marcia, Joy and Sonia, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Sadly her only brother Ainsworth died in 2017.
